Yesterday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a voluntary global recall of Allergan’s BIOCELL® textured breast implants due to its risk of breast-implant associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare form of immune system cell cancer. It’s important to note that at this time the FDA does not recommend removal of these or other types of breast implants in patients who have no symptoms due to the low risk of developing BIA-ALCL.
