Renuvion® Skin Tightening Treatment

The Quatela Center is excited to be the first in Western New York to offer Renuvion, an FDA-cleared, minimally invasive skin firming treatment.  The device utilizes high-energy heat and a stream of cold plasma energy to shrink and smooth lax skin.  Combined with liposuction or another contouring procedure, or utilized on its own, Renuvion offers skin tightening in various areas of the face and body.

How Does Renuvion Work?

Renuvion utilizes a cannula, inserted into tiny incisions, to precisely deliver a stream of cold plasma energy underneath the skin.  The cold plasma energy is created by energizing helium gas and radiofrequency (RF) waves.  This combination of high-energy heat and the plasma’s cold temperature cause collagen to contract and the skin to tighten from the inside out, while keeping the skin cool.

Renuvion can target loose skin on many areas of the face and body, including the:

  • Neck
  • Under the chin
  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Arms
  • Back

For optimal contouring results, Renuvion is most often paired with liposuction or another contouring procedure.

Your Renuvion Consultation

During your consultation, one of our surgeons will review your health history and listen to you describe your primary concerns.  Additionally, the area of concern will be carefully examined to assess your personal characteristics.  The consultation is an important opportunity to discuss your short and long-term cosmetic goals and ask questions about your treatment options.  The surgeon will explain the Renuvion procedure, what you can expect during recovery, and potential complications.

Your surgeon will create a personalized treatment plan designed around your needs and lifestyle, based on the consultation.

Your Renuvion Procedure

Renuvion is most often performed together with liposuction or other surgical contouring procedures.  This improves results by tightening the skin after fat has been removed.  The procedure takes about an hour, but will vary depending on each individual’s procedure plan.

The long, thin cannula is inserted under the skin via a small incision.  The surgeon moves the cannula back and forth under the skin, during which time the radiofrequency energy ionizes the helium gas.  This turns it into a precise stream of cool plasma that contracts the existing collagen fibers and stimulates the production of new collagen.

Recovery After Renuvion

Mild swelling and bruising are expected, and a compression garment may be recommended to promote healing and reduce swelling.  Any discomfort felt is usually manageable with pain medication.  Specific post-procedure instructions will be provided based on if liposuction or another surgical procedure are performed in conjunction with Renuvion.

Renuvion Results

Immediate skin contraction occurs, however full results from Renuvion may be seen at six to nine months once the new collagen has fully developed.

While aging continues to occur, practicing a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise will help to maintain Renuvion results.

Ideal Renuvion Candidates

The ideal Renuvion candidate is someone who:

  • Is in overall good health
  • Within five to ten pounds of their ideal weight
  • Has mild sagging of the cheeks, jowls, neck, arms, thighs, abdomen, or other areas of the body
  • Has realistic goals and expectations about the results

The first step in deciding if you are a good candidate for Renuvion is to meet with one of our surgeons for a private, personal consultation appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments are needed?

Renuvion is designed as a single treatment.  Results may start to be seen weeks after the procedure, and will continue to improve as the treated area heals.

How long is the Renuvion procedure?

Renuvion is generally utilized as an additional procedure alongside liposuction or other contouring surgery, so the procedure times will vary.  Renuvion itself usually takes about an hour from start to finish, depending on the size of the treatment area.

What is the recovery like after Renuvion?

Mild bruising and soreness may be expected, but most report minimal to no pain and rather experience mild discomfort.  Activity restrictions and downtime depend on the procedure done in conjunction with Renuvion (liposuction, deep neck contouring, etc.).
