The consultation lasts about 30 minutes to an hour. A clinical staff member reviews your medical history, including past medical conditions, current allergies and medications, as well as your personal or family history of breast cancer and any other breast issues. Next, your surgeon will:

Dr. Amalfi and Dr. Krasniak perform Mommy Makeover surgery at our private, onsite, accredited surgery center using general anesthesia. The length of the operation depends on the procedures included; most last from 3 to 5 hours.
The details of each procedure vary. All include specialized pain control techniques, such as injections during surgery of a long-acting local anesthetic, for enhanced recovery.
While recovery varies with the procedures performed and individual patient factors, it generally proceeds along the following timeline:
Day of surgery:
Return home in the care of an adult friend or family member. Long-acting local anesthetic will keep you comfortable for the first few days.
4 to 5 days:
Drains removed.
3+ weeks:
Compression garments no longer needed.
4 weeks:
Swelling subsides.
6 weeks:
Resume vigorous exercise.
6 to 8 months:
Abdominal swelling resolves.
6 to 12+ months:
Scars fade.

Our surgeons carefully plan Mommy Makeovers to combine procedures that can be performed together in a safe amount of time. That said, any surgical procedure holds the chance for infection, scarring, bleeding, fluid collection, or blood clots. Choosing a highly trained, experienced plastic surgeon, such as ours, greatly minimizes the risks of complications.
Age is not the defining factor when considering a Mommy Makeover. Our plastic surgeons recommend women wait until after they are finished having children to have a Mommy Makeover because a future pregnancy could compromise the procedure’s benefits.
As with any surgical procedure, visible scarring occurs after a Mommy Makeover. Our surgeons make incisions in locations that are as inconspicuous as possible, usually where swimwear and clothing can cover the scars. Scars gradually fade from red to pink to almost colorless over the course of several months.
