HOW TO SELECT A PLASTIC SURGEON

An educated patient is the most qualified person to select a plastic surgeon that is right for them.

1. Check out Plastic Surgeons & Staff to see if the plastic surgeon is Board Certified in the body area you're considering having improved.

2. Get names from friends, your family doctor, satisfied patients - but check out the names YOURSELF. You may be given the name of a good plastic surgeon, only to find out there is someone more skilled and qualified. Interview two or three plastic surgeons to make comparisons.

4. Look at Before & After photos of the plastic surgeon's work. Do you like what you see?

5. Ask to talk to the plastic surgeons patients who had procedures similar to the one's you are interested in to see what their experience was like.

6. Research Procedure Information about specific plastic surgery procedures your interested in.

7. Prepare for your plastic surgery consultation by making a written list of questions ahead of time.

Notice that steps 1-7 are all before your consultation with the plastic surgeon! This way you go to the consultation educated and in control!

8. At Your Consultation, is the plastic surgeon able to answer your questions to your satisfaction? Does he give his opinion about which plastic surgery procedures would achieve the results that you want? If you have a big nose, does he show you before and after photos of other patients with big noses? Are options discussed? Is a written quote provided for any and all fees?

9. Does the plastic surgery consultation include computer imaging? In comparing your photo with the image created, does the result look reasonable to you? Does the plastic surgeon go over limitations - what can and cannot be achieved - and realistic expectations?

10. Check out both the plastic surgeon and staff's communication skills. Surgeon's communication skills - does the plastic surgeon listen to and understand you? Staff's communication skills - in order to talk to the plastic , you will first be talking to the staff. Are they courteous, knowledgeable and helpful?
