Ear Piercing

Did you know that Dr. Ashley Amalfi offers ear piercing to all ages?  Many new parents search for the right place to bring their baby or child for ear piercing. When it comes to having your child’s ears pierced, you want to see a professional. Our staff will take great care of you and your precious little one!

How does it work?

Dr. Amalfi will pierce your little one’s ears once they have reached 3 months old.  Small post stainless steel earrings are used.  We start with cleaning the ears and placing some numbing cream on the earlobes. The cream takes a few minutes to soak in and numb the area.  Our nurse will remove the cream, and Dr. Amalfi will mark the earlobe with a small dot.  The caregiver will then have the chance to approve the piercing position.  Dr. Amalfi is an amazing mother herself, and she is wonderful at putting adults, children, and babies alike at ease during the visit.  A piercing gun is used to make it quick and easy for the little ones – after a quick pinch the piercing is done!  Depending on the age of the child, sometimes a small ice pack is used to sooth the area. The child then gets to see their new earrings in the mirror! After the piercing, we also offer each child a small prize for their job well done.

What after-care is needed?

Clean the ears once a day with hydrogen peroxide spray and twist each earring. It’s best to do this after a shower or bath. The earring should stay in for 6 to 8 weeks to heal. After that time, you can switch out to another pair of earrings.  We will also provide further instructions for after piercing care.

We love seeing little ones in our office and offering this specialty service in a clean, private, and beautiful setting. Call our office at (585) 244-1000 or contact us to set up an ear piercing appointment!

Yes, you can use your own earrings for ear piercing. With an infant, we do require the use of our earrings so that they fit properly in the piercing gun.

With young children and babies, we recommend using the piercing gun so that the process is quick for them. You can bring your own earrings, but it will take a little more time and a needle must be used. Older kids can bring their own earrings if the parents feel the child can handle the needle. We do use numbing cream for all our patients to help make the process as comfortable as possible!

Thank you for your question! For babies, we do need to use the piercing gun so that it’s quick and easy for them. If you bring your own earrings, Dr. Amalfi would need to numb the ear and pierce with a needle, and it’s too difficult for little ones and takes more time. The earrings we use are sterling silver which are gold in color. You can switch out these earrings 6-8 weeks after piercing.
