Neck Liposuction

Both men and women come to our Rochester, NY, practice for neck liposuction. The neck and chin are two of the most common areas of concern for liposuction patients. Fat accumulates easily in the neck, especially under the chin, causing the appearance of a double chin. Patients who aren’t ready for a facelift, but want a more streamlined neck and defined chin are good candidates for neck liposuction.

People who live in Buffalo, Syracuse, and other areas of New York travel to the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery for facial rejuvenation procedures, such as neck liposuction. Request your consultation using the online form to meet personally with one of our facial plastic surgeons or give our office a call at (585) 244-1000 to schedule an appointment.

What Is Neck Liposuction?

Neck liposuction offers you a way to remove fat in the neck and chin areas. Liposuction is very popular surgical procedure that is usually associated with body contouring. It is a safe and effective technique to remove fat cells. Fat does not accumulate again in the treatment area, but it is important to remember that fat will accumulate in untreated areas if you gain weight.

Your Neck Liposuction Consultation

The consultation is an important part of the process, giving you a chance to get to know your surgeon and ask questions about the procedure. Your surgeon discusses any concerns you might have, the benefits and side effects of the procedure, and your desired outcome. Your medical history, previous surgeries, present medical conditions, and any current medications and supplements that you are taking will be discussed with a nurse as well.

Your surgeon will examine the area of your neck that you are concerned with and look at the amount of fat to be removed and the laxity of your skin. There are multiple options for fat removal and skin tightening in the neck and chin area, which will be discussed so that you can weigh the benefits and advantages of each. Sometimes, a chin implant may also be recommended to create a balanced appearance. You may also be a candidate for a non-surgical fat reduction treatment such as KYBELLA® injections or PrecisionTx™. Using his/her experience and expertise in facial contouring, your surgeon will recommend the procedure that will work best for you.

Your Neck Liposuction Procedure

Your surgeon performs neck liposuction at the Lindsay House Surgery Center using a local anesthetic with IV sedation. Your surgeon begins the procedure by making small incisions – typically under the chin but sometimes also behind the ears if the jawline needs to be contoured as well. The procedure takes about an hour depending on the amount of fatty tissue your surgeon removes and the contouring necessary to create the natural-looking results that the Quatela Center is known for. Your surgeon then applies a large, gauze pressure dressing that you need to wear the first night after surgery. It’s removed at your postoperative appointment the next morning.

What Can I Expect After Neck Liposuction?

A bandage is worn at all times for the first 5 days. After that, you’ll need to wear it while sleeping for an additional 7 days. Your surgeon removes sutures from the chin on the fifth day after surgery and ear sutures, if needed, on day 7. Expect some bruising and swelling, which may take 2 to 3 weeks to fully resolve. Any discomfort you may experience can be managed with pain medication, cold compresses applied as directed, and rest.

How Long Does Neck Liposuction Take to Heal?

Recovery after neck liposuction may take from 1 to 3 weeks; however, experiences vary. Most neck liposuction patients return to work within a week of surgery, depending on the nature of the job. If needed, you can camouflage any residual bruising with makeup. Our surgeons advise patients to postpone exercising for three weeks after surgery.

Neck Liposuction FAQ

Where do your surgeons perform neck liposuction surgeries?

Our surgeons perform all surgeries as outpatient procedures at the Lindsay House Surgery Center, a fully licensed, AAAHC accredited, multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center located at the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery.

Will neck liposuction remove excess skin?

Liposuction removes fat cells, not excess skin. Patients with loose or drooping skin may be advised to add a neck lift or facelift procedure in addition to liposuction in order to give them the results they are looking for.

Will I have scarring after neck liposuction surgery?

Small incisions are placed under the chin and sometimes behind the ears to perform neck liposuction surgery. The scarring from these incisions is minimal and typically fades over time to become barely noticeable.

How long will I be off work after neck liposuction surgery?

Most patients are typically able to return to work and other activities around one week following surgery depending on individual healing rates and the nature of their jobs. Your surgeon discusses the specifics of your own recovery with you before surgery.

How much is neck liposuction?

The cost of neck liposuction varies, depending on your specific needs and goals. All prices quoted from the Quatela Center are all-inclusive and include pre and postoperative appointments, surgeon’s fees, surgery center fees, and anesthesia costs.
