Both men and women come to our Rochester, NY practice for neck liposuction. The neck and chin are two of the most common areas of concern for liposuction patients. Fat accumulates easily in the neck, especially under the chin, causing the appearance of a double chin. Patients who aren't ready for a facelift, but want a more streamlined neck and defined chin are good candidates for neck liposuction.

Neck liposuction offers you a way to permanently remove fat cells in the neck and chin areas. Liposuction is very popular surgical procedure that is usually associated with body contouring. It is a safe and effective technique to remove fat cells. Fat does not accumulate again in the treatment area, but it is important to remember that fat will accumulate in untreated areas if you gain weight.
Individual results may vary.
You're an ideal candidate for neck liposuction if your skin retains elasticity but you're concerned about fat underneath the chin and neck. You should be in good overall health, not be a smoker, and have realistic expectations about the procedure's outcome. Dr. Quatela assesses your specific situation to determine if neck liposuction is right for you.
The consultation is an important part of the process, giving you a chance to get to know Dr. Quatela and ask questions about the procedure. Dr. Quatela discusses any concerns you might have, the benefits and side effects of the procedure, and your desired outcome. Your medical history, previous surgeries, present medical conditions, and any current medications and supplements that you are taking will be discussed with a nurse as well.
Dr. Quatela will examine the area of your neck that you are concerned with and look at the amount of fat to be removed and the laxity of your skin. There are multiple options for fat removal and skin tightening in the neck and chin area, which will be discussed so that you can weigh the benefits and advantages of each. Sometimes, a chin implant may also be recommended to create a balanced appearance. You may also be a candidate for a non-surgical fat reduction treatment such as KYBELLA® injections or PrecisionTx™. Using his experience and expertise in facial contouring, Dr. Quatela will recommend the procedure that will work best for you.
Dr. Vito C. Quatela is a board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with more than 25 years of experience performing facial rejuvenation procedures. Dr. Quatela is a past president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is highly respected by his peers as a recognized expert in all areas of facial plastic surgery, including neck lift, facelift and other facial procedures.
Dr. Quatela performs neck liposuction at the Lindsay House Surgery Center using a local anesthetic with IV sedation. He begins the procedure by making small incisions – typically under the chin but sometimes also behind the ears if the jawline needs to be contoured as well. The procedure takes about an hour depending on the amount of fatty tissue Dr. Quatela removes and the contouring necessary to create the natural-looking results that he is known for. He applies a large, gauze pressure dressing that you need to wear the first night after surgery. It's removed at your postoperative appointment the next morning.
Your recovery after neck liposuction can take from one to three weeks. A bandage is worn at all times for the first five days. After that, you'll need to wear it while sleeping for an additional seven days. Dr. Quatela removes sutures from the chin on the fifth day after surgery and ear sutures, if needed, on day seven. Expect some bruising and swelling, which may take two to three weeks to fully resolve. Any discomfort you may experience can be managed with pain medication, cold compresses applied as directed, and rest.
Most neck liposuction patients return to work within a week of surgery, depending on the nature of the job. If needed, you can camouflage any residual bruising with makeup. Dr. Quatela advises patients to resume exercising three weeks after surgery.
Dr. Quatela performs all surgeries as outpatient procedures at the Lindsay House Surgery Center, a fully licensed, AAAHC accredited, multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center located at the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery.
Liposuction removes fat cells, not excess skin. Patients with loose or drooping skin may be advised to add a neck lift or facelift procedure in addition to liposuction in order to give them the results they are looking for.
Small incisions are placed under the chin and sometimes behind the ears to perform neck liposuction surgery. The scarring from these incisions is minimal and typically fades over time to become barely noticeable.
Most patients are able to return to work and other activities around one week following surgery depending on the nature of their jobs. Dr. Quatela discusses the specifics of your own recovery with before surgery.
