Brow Lift
As we age, the forehead can begin to develop deep creases and lines, as the tissues begin to lose elasticity. These changes, made worse from sun damage, dramatic weight loss, and genetics, may make the face appear frustrated, angry, and years older. No amount of creams or expensive lotions can reverse these signs of early aging. A browlift in Rochester, NY, at the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery can provide optimal, long-lasting rejuvenation of the forehead and eyebrow area.

Brow Lift Procedure
The brow lift is a surgical procedure, designed to provide a smooth, lifted forehead. The procedure gives patients natural looking results; restoring a rested and youthful appearance. Furthermore, the brow lift may improve visual function, as it raises sagging skin. During the procedure, the hold of the forehead muscles is released, smoothing and elongating their appearance. The eyebrows are lifted, giving the face an awake and rejuvenated appearance.
A brow lift is performed to provide one or more of the following improvements:
- Soften the lines and furrows of the forehead
- Improve drooping eyebrows
- Reduce tissue pushing down towards eyelids
- Diminish wrinkles that occur on the bridge of the nose between the eyes
- Correct frown lines
- Place the eyebrows in a more youthful and alert position
Brow Lift Consultation
Before scheduling a brow lift, a one-on-one consultation will be scheduled with one of our facial plastic surgeons. This will provide time to get to know the surgeon and to discuss your aesthetic goals. First, your surgeon will assess your bone structure and soft tissue design. He or she will also examine the form/function of your head and neck. Your surgeon will then fully explain the brow lift procedure and answer any initial questions. Your surgeon will show numerous before and after photos of their brow lift patients to assist with visualization of prospective results. If the brow lift is determined to be the right procedure for you, your surgeon will create a unique surgical plan. At this time, the exact price of the brow lift will be explained, as well as all payment and financing options.
Brow Lift Candidates
Both men and women looking to improve their appearance can benefit from the brow lift procedure. Prospective patients may be experiencing difficulty applying eye makeup, heavy and/or dropping eyebrows, or persistent bags under their eyes. The ideal candidate will be in generally good health, understand the brow lift procedure, and hold reasonable expectations for their final results. During the consultation appointment, the surgeon will determine if the brow lift procedure is right for the individual patient’s needs.

Preparing for Your Brow Lift Procedure
By taking time to prepare for your brow lift procedure ahead of time, you can ensure a smooth recovery. Carefully review your surgeon’s pre and post-operative instructions, and contact our office if any questions arise. Keep the following in mind as well:
Stop smoking two weeks before surgery, even temporarily, as this can cause delayed wound healing.
- Let your doctor know all medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements. These can cause dangerous, excessive bleeding.
- Since you will not be able to drive yourself home from the surgery center, be sure to arrange for a ride home.
- Set up someone to check in on you during the first few days after your brow lift, just in case you need assistance.
- Have an icepack on hand at home, to place on your forehead; this will assist with swelling.
- Set up a comfortable place to rest at home during your recovery, with lots of pillows to prop your head, as well as reading materials to pass the time.
- Get your medications filled at the pharmacy before the day of your surgery.
The Brow Lift Procedure
Our surgeons utilize the endoscopic brow lift technique where three to five incisions are created, between one-half inch to an inch in the scalp above the hairline. From here, a small camera (endoscope) is inserted into one incision. The surgeon will remove excess skin, tighten the muscles of the forehead and brow, and elevate the remaining tissue. Scarring is minimal, as the incisions are concealed within the natural hairline. To provide the best results, your surgeon can combine brow lift with other rejuvenating procedures such as the facelift or eyelid lift.
At the Quatela Center, brow lift is performed as an outpatient procedure, with the patient under anesthesia. The length of time that the procedure takes will depend on the individual patient.

Brow Lift Recovery
Patients should expect brow lift recovery to take from one to two weeks. Bruising and swelling can be expected initially, as well as temporary black eyes. These issues will dissipate on their own, but the use of cold forehead compresses can also be helpful. Pain is normally minimal, although some tightness or sore areas may occur. Numbness behind the incision site is not uncommon, as there are several nerves in the treatment area. Normally, the numbness will quickly resolve, although it may last six months or more. Most patients feel well enough to return to work in about a week.
The brow lift at the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery is considered a safe and effective procedure. As it is invasive however, there is always the rare chance for complications to occur. The risks include bleeding, scarring, and infection. By choosing a qualified, experienced cosmetic surgeon to perform your brow lift, you guarantee the lowest possible risk for complications.
Choosing the Right Brow Lift Surgeon
Not every cosmetic surgeon has experience in the endoscopic brow lift technique, so it is important to learn about the number of endoscopic procedures they have performed in comparison to traditional brow lift procedures. Dr. Quatela is world renowned and a recognized leader in the field of facial cosmetic and plastic surgery. How do you know if you need a brow lift or eyelid surgery?
Individual results may vary.
The brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a specialized surgical procedure designed to lift the brow and forehead area, taking years off of the appearance. We typically use an endoscopic approach, which utilizes 4 tiny incisions placed behind the hairline.
Every patient is different, but it is normal to have some swelling and bruising for a week to 10 days after the brow lift procedure.
When can I return to work after my brow lift procedure?
Normally, patients are feeling well enough to return to work in 7 to 10 days.
Will I have scars from my brow lift procedure?
Very small scars may occur after a brow lift, although these will be well concealed within the hairline by Dr. Quatela or Dr. Lee.
Is hair loss a side effect of an endoscopic brow lift?
Dr. Quatela and Dr. Lee plan incision placement for the brow lift to allow hair to re-grow through the scar and to minimize the chance of hair loss. However, anytime an incision is made in the hairline, hair loss is a potential risk.
How long do the results of a brow lift last?
Benefits from a brow lift can last for many years. Although the tissues of the face continue to age, the new placement of the brow is not likely to change.

Our goal at the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery is to achieve lasting, natural-looking results for our patients. Our surgeons perform the endoscopic brow lift to give patients a refreshed look without appearing too pulled or tight.
