How Do I Know if I’m a Candidate? | Labiaplasty

Bikini season is ending, and as we get into cozier clothes, the procedure we are seeing a huge rise in is labiaplasty.  Just like so many procedures in plastic surgery, the labiaplasty technique evolved out of need.  Women were unhappy for so many reasons, but plastic surgeons are able to offer solutions for both the cosmetic and functional concerns that our patients are bringing to us.  I see such a diverse group of patients for this procedure, and the reasons they seek female genital surgery are just as varied as the women themselves.

Reasons for Labiaplasty

For my active patients, many report that their excess labia tissue gets pinched when they ride a bicycle or their Peloton. My runner patients complain of chaffing and irritation from long runs and the ‘extra tissue down there.’ I have patients young and old who report their labia tissue gets stuck or caught when having sex.  Women worry about hygiene as well, and some say it’s just harder to stay clean with the redundancy of their labia minora.  Some report how they feel in clothing like yoga pants and swim suits, and that they want things to just look more tucked in when standing.  Other women are just self-conscious about the way things look, and wondering what changes are possible.

Some report saying

We should think of female genital surgery, and labiaplasty in particular, just like breast surgery.  Some women have large breasts, small breasts, perky breasts, sagging breasts; they seek plastic surgery because they simply desire a different size or shape to fit their body.  Labiaplasty offers that very same solution to my patients.  If women want their labia to be shorter, or to tuck in and not be visible behind their labia majora, this is something we can easily achieve.  Women also complain of the excess tissue on their clitoral hood, and this is something we can address as well.  For vaginal tightening, we have devices such as the diVa that can help with functional concerns.

A Simple Procedure

Patients are so excited when they realized I can easily improve their symptoms and get the look they want with just a one-hour procedure without any general anesthesia.  My patients chat and engage as we complete their procedure quite comfortably.  My favorite part of the whole process is right when we’re done.  I give them a hand mirror to take a look at the results.  They are so happy with the immediate change that they smile ear to ear, some shout out some excited comments, some are brought to tears.  They all are so pleased with the results, and I’m so glad to be able to offer that to them.

If you’re asking yourself whether you’re a candidate, pick up the phone and call for a consult.  Choosing a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon who has a busy labiaplasty practice will ensure you have the best functional and aesthetic result from your procedure.  As a woman myself, I am so excited to be able to offer this to the upstate New York area, and I can’t wait to meet you and talk about just what it is you’re looking for.

“There is no need to feel self-conscious, or to experience symptoms that are intrusive on your active lifestyle or sex life, if they can be easily addressed.”
